Announcements 12-18-20

Any student in grades 8, 9, or 10 who has in interested in attending the Arkansas School of Mathematics, Science, or the Arts, ASMSA, should contact Mrs. Amber.  A representative of ASMSA can come to the school or hold a Zoom meeting with our students who want more information. 

Any student grades 9-12 who needs a schedule change for second semester should email Mrs. Amber.  Any student grades 7-8 who needs a schedule change should email Mrs. Conley .

 Friday, Dec 18, will be a FLEX DAY.  Students do not have to come to school. Any students on campus will meet in the cafeteria and may complete work from there.  We also have a FLEX DAY scheduled for Friday, Jan.8.   Decisions will be made about the remainder of next semester at a later date.

Christmas Break will be Monday, Dec. 21, 2020- Friday, Jan 1, 2021. We will come back on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021.

TEACHERS:  Grades should be in the computer and loaded into report cards by the end of the day on Friday, Dec. 18.  eSchool will be down during the break for updates.

Friday- 7th/Jr/Sr Boys Basketball vs. Corning at home beginning at 5:00.

Monday, Dec 21- 7th/Jr/Sr Girls Basketball vs. Walnut Ridge at home beginning at 5:00.

7th and 8th grade Archery Practice will not be held until after Christmas Break.  Stay turned for more details after the break.

REMINDER: Attention Students: You MUST WEAR MASKS in the hallway and in classes that cannot be socially distanced. Also, No Fountain Soda Cups are allowed at school. Water Bottles Only. Please also put your masks on anytime you are mobile including the cafeteria during lunch.  Students must come in the cafeteria/building when arriving at school. No one is to stay in vehicles in the parking lot or leave campus. This is not a new rule.

We have "Hunter Strong" bracelets for sale in the office for $3 each. There are Buttons to honor Hunter Midkiff for sale in the office for $3. Proceeds from the button sales will go to a scholarship fund in memory of Hunter.

2020-2021 PHS yearbook order forms were sent home. There is a payment plan to help our families. Online ordering is available at Jostensyearbooks.com.

DEADLINE 12-31-2020***Attention Senior Athletes: The ASHOF awards nine $1,000 scholarships to deserving Arkansas student-athlete high school seniors. https://www.arksportshalloffam... CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY: Must be a graduating senior from an Arkansas high school (AAA member) for the school year 2020-2021. Must be attending an Arkansas college or junior college (private or public) as a freshman the following fall 2021. Students attending out of state colleges are not eligible. Must submit an essay to the ASHOF for evaluation. The essay should state how sports has positively impacted your life. This essay must be submitted online by December 31, 2020. All submissions after this date will not be considered. THE ESSAY SHOULD BE NO LONGER THAN THE FRONT OF ONE STANDARD TYPEWRITTEN PAGE, SINGLE-SPACED. Essays longer than one page will NOT be accepted. Quality over quantity. Only the first 100 essays submitted to the ASHOF will be considered for review for the scholarships.

***Seniors:  The Arkansas Tech Department of English and World Languages is awarding six creative writing scholarships worth as much as $1500 each! -Any high school senior is eligible to enter:

  • -Scholarship may be used to pursue any degree at ATU, including the only Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in creative writing in Arkansas
  • -Deadline: January 15, 2021

***Seniors:  The MFA Foundation Scholarship is available online at www.MFAFoundation.com.Applicants must be a child or grandchild (including step) of a member -level customer.  The membership number and relation must be on the application.  Deadline is February 15, 2021

****University of Central Arkansas -The Windgate Scholarship is based on talent and financial need and can be worth up to $2,000 per semester in the freshman year, based on amount of financial need. The scholarship is renewable and can increase up to $1,000 each year.  In the senior year, up to $5,000 per semester can potentially be awarded.  Two such scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshmen for the 2021-2022 academic year.

To be eligible for the Scholarship, students must do the following:

·         Complete on-line submission of an FAFSA form by the deadline indicated in the Application.   Instructions for accessing the form are provided in the Application;

·         Return a completed Application, along with the requested materials, via United States Mail, to my office by the deadline shown in the Application;

·         Plan to declare Art as their major emphasis of study; and,

·         Attend the University of Central Arkansas in the fall 2021 semester.

**Seniors: Williams Baptist University offers a Williams Works Program which is a work program where students will work 16 hours a week and receive a work scholarship to cover tuition. Deadline to apply is February 1, 2021. Apply at williamsbu.edu/williamsworks

*** University of Central Arkansas is hosting one more preview zoom meeting. It is scheduled for  Jan. 7 at 7:00 p.m. Students will learn about both of their honors programs, the Schedler Honors College and the University Scholars Program, as well as hear from current honors students, take a virtual tour of the honors housing, and learn about the application process. All high school seniors with a GPA of 3.5 or higher are eligible to apply to UCA's Honors College. See Mrs. Amber for details.

**Seniors: The American Legion Scholarship application is available in Mrs. Amber's office. You must be a child, grandchild, or great grandchild of an American Legionnaire. Applications must be received by March 12,2021.

**GE/Reagan Foundation Scholarship--Honoring the legacy and character of our nation’s 40th President, the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education.

Each year, the Program selects numerous recipients to receive a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to an additional three years – up to $40,000 total per recipient. Awards are for undergraduate study and may be used for education-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, and board. In addition, Scholars are invited to participate in a special awards program and receive ongoing leadership-development support. To be eligible for this award, applicants must:

demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship; demonstrate strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent); be citizens of the United States of America; be current high school seniors ; and plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study toward a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year. Semifinalists will be required to provide a recommendation from a community leader, such as a high school principal, elected official or executive director of a nonprofit organization, and must provide documentation to certify academic performance and financial need.
