Announcements 11-2-20 

Friday, Nov. 6 is a Virtual day.  Students who choose to come to school on Friday will stay in the cafeteria.  They will be supervised.  Breakfast and Lunch will be served.

Friday, Nov. 20 will be Virtual Student Interim Testing Day-  All virtual students 7-10th grade will come to the High School Campus and take ACTAspire Interim tests in English, Math, and Science.  Traditional Classroom students will take tests the week of Nov. 16-20.  Check Google Classroom for details on times the tests will be given.

**SR Football-  Monday, Nov. 2 make-up game, at Harrisburg 7:00-  Thursday vs. Corning at 7:00

Congratulations to the Sr. High Girls' Volleyball team for finishing in the Final Four of the state tournament.

MAKE-UP PICTURES-  Tuesday, November 17 -  7-11 th grade pictures will be 10am-12pm and Senior make-ups will be 1-3 p.m.

Beta Club members are selling the Riverside Farms fruit and meat again this year.  Please see a Beta club member or contact Mrs. April Flowers if you would like to order. Orders are due by November 18.  Delivery will be the first or second week of December.

7th and 8th grade students who signed up for archery should go by the office today to pick up permission forms. 7th and 8th grade archery tryouts will be announced at a later date.

There is  a sign-up sheet  in the office for anyone in grades 9-12 who would like to participate in archery.

Any sophomore, junior, or senior who was not previously invited to join the Beta Club may send a copy of his or her transcript to Mrs. Flowers to determine eligibility.

 Any student who was in the Beta Club or was invited to join last year needs to check his or her email periodically for important information regarding the organization.

 Betas need to make arrangements to pay dues by December 1. 

**ACT testing at PHS will be December 12, 2020.  The deadline to register without late fees is Friday, November 6.  We have some practice test packets in the office.  See Mrs. Amber or Mrs. Conley if you have any questions.  

REMINDER:  Students must come in the cafeteria/building when arriving at school.  No one is to stay in vehicles in the parking lot or leave campus. This is not a new rule.  

We have "Hunter Strong" bracelets for sale in the office for $3 each.

There are Buttons to honor Hunter Midkiff for sale in the office for $3. Proceeds from the button sales will go to a scholarship fund in memory of Hunter.

 2020-2021 PHS yearbook order forms were sent home. There is a payment plan to help our families.  Online ordering is available at Jostensyearbooks.com.

Students, It is time to join FCCLA! If you are in Mrs. Little's class or have been in Mrs. Little's classes you qualify to join. The dues are $15.00 again this year you will also receive a Sonic card value of at least $5.00. See Mrs. Little to join.

**The National School Plant Management Association (NSPMA) seeks to assist qualified students who are continuing their education by offering scholarships to those pursuing a Technical/ Trade Certification, Associates or Bachelor of Facilities / Engineering degree.  Any graduating high school senior, college freshman, sophomore, or junior is eligible to apply for a scholarship.  The total number of scholarship awards is based on available funding capabilities of the NSPMA Scholarship Trust Fund.  Awards are based on the selection criteria of:  financial need, academic achievement, co-curricular participation, community service, and essay response. Individual scholarships may range from $500 up to $1,500 depending on the candidate’s interest, evaluation results, and recommendation from the NSPMA Scholarship Committee. **Seniors:  Williams Baptist University has one more in-person Preview Day available for this fall - November 13.  Go to www.williamsbu.edu/preview/ to register. Williams Baptist University offers a Williams Works Program which is a work program where students will work 16 hours a week and receive a work scholarship to cover tuition.  Deadline to apply is February 1, 2021.  Apply at williamsbu.edu/williamsworks

*** University of Central Arkansas is hosting more preview zoom meetings.  They are  scheduled for Nov. 11 at 11:00 a.m., Nov. 16 at 7:00 p.m., Dec. 6 at 2:00 p.m., and Jan. 7 at 7:00 p.m.  Students will learn about both of their honors programs, the Schedler Honors College and the University Scholars Program, as well as hear from current honors students, take a virtual tour of the honors housing, and learn about the application process. All high school seniors with a GPA of 3.5 or higher are eligible to apply to UCA's Honors College.  See Mrs. Amber for details.

**Seniors:  The American Legion Scholarship application is available in Mrs. Amber's office.  You must be a child, grandchild, or great grandchild of an American Legionnaire.  Applications must be received by March 12,2021.

Juniors and Seniors:  The Arkansas School Boards Association is holding a personal essay/speaking contest.  Email Mrs. Amber if you are interested.

***Attention Senior Athletes: The ASHOF awards nine $1,000 scholarships to deserving Arkansas student-athlete high school seniors. https://www.arksportshalloffam...   CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY: Must be a graduating senior from an Arkansas high school (AAA member) for the school year 2020-2021. Must be attending an Arkansas college or junior college (private or public) as a freshman the following fall 2021. Students attending out of state colleges are not eligible. Must submit an essay to the ASHOF for evaluation. The essay should state how sports has positively impacted your life. This essay must be submitted online by December 31, 2020. All submissions after this date will not be considered.    THE ESSAY SHOULD BE NO LONGER THAN THE FRONT OF ONE STANDARD TYPEWRITTEN PAGE, SINGLE-SPACED. Essays longer than one page will NOT be accepted. Quality over quantity. Only the first 100 essays submitted to the ASHOF will be considered for review for the scholarships.

**GE/Reagan Foundation Scholarship

Honoring the legacy and character of our nation’s 40th President, the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education.

  • Each year, the Program selects numerous recipients to receive a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to an additional three years – up to $40,000 total per recipient. Awards are for undergraduate study and may be used for education-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, and board. In addition, Scholars are invited to participate in a special awards program and receive ongoing leadership-development support.

To be eligible for this award, applicants must:

  • demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship;
  • demonstrate strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent);
  • be citizens of the United States of America;
  • be current high school seniors ; and
  • plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study toward a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university  for the entire upcoming academic year.

Semifinalists will be required to provide a recommendation from a community leader, such as a high school principal, elected official or executive director of a nonprofit organization, and must provide documentation to certify academic performance and financial need.
