Announcements 4-11-19

School Choice deadline is May 1. Applications should be turned into the Piggott School District Superintendent Office by Wednesday, May 1

Teachers:  Progress Report grades must be in the computer by Monday, April 15.  Progress reports will be sent home on Wednesday, April 17.

The 2019 PHS Jr/Sr Prom will be this Friday.  All Seniors will be excused for the whole day on Friday.  Juniors will dismissed throughout the morning.  Any Junior who is not here on Friday before their dismissal time will be counted absent for those classes missed. Grand March will begin at 8:00. The DOORS will open at 7:00 p.m. No Early Entry or Reserved Seating.

The Middle Gym will be Closed until Monday. Band/Music students use the outside entrance door to enter the Stage Area Only.

The New and Middle Gyms are CLOSED this week.  Students should not be in the New gym or locker rooms. 

Jrs and Srs who bought after prom t-shirts can pick them up at the Superintendent's office today only.

Congratulations to Amber Reed for winning 4th place in mixed media and an honorable mention in crafts at the Arkansas Young Artist Association State Competition.

The Clay County Fair Board application deadline has been extended until this Friday, April 12.  The applications are in the office.

Please excuse the following students Thursday 1st period until 1:00. They will be at the Hemingway Educational Center. Natalie Blake, Madison Arenaz, Ava Baggett, and Londyn Morton. 

Any Senior High FBLA member wanting to attend Teen Truth Live at Six Flags on Thursday, May 9 should bring $30 to Mrs. Peters no later than Friday, April 12. You must have participated in the fundraiser or made a donation to be eligible to attend.

Seniors:  The Holly Alonzo New Beginnings scholarship application is now available.  Let Mrs. Amber know if you would like it emailed to you.  It is to be submitted by email.  The deadline is May 13.  It is a $1500 scholarship to be paid over 2 semesters.  Priority is for a degree in a field that serves the public.

Junior Softball will have practice on Friday at 3:30.

The Senior High Track team meet will be in Paragould on Thursday and team will be dismissed at 1:00.

The Softball team will play Hoxie at Home on Thursday. Please excuse at 2:00. 

Please excuse Amber Fenton Wednesday after testing and Thursday and Friday. She was chosen to attend the Girls of Promise STEM program in Little Rock.

Seniors:  Baccalaureate service will be on Wednesday, May 8 @ 6:30 at First General Baptist Church.

There will be a Spanish Club meeting in Mrs. Cheng's room next Thursday, April 18 during activity period.

Donkey Basketball Game - Riders must be 15 or older. The game will be the Thursday night before Easter Break (April 18) in the middle gym at 6:30.  Tickets are Advance $8 and $10 at the door. See Mrs. Little.

A Powderpuff football game is scheduled for Thursday evening May 2. The classes need to get their teams together. Girls need permission slips to play and boys need permission slips to be cheerleaders. See Mrs. Little. 

Any student grades 10-12 who is interested in working on the yearbook next school year, please see Sherry Taylor at the Superintendents office.   

Students in 9th - 11th grades see Mrs. Amber if you need to sign up for summer school for credit recovery.

The 2019 Mini Mohawk Cheer Clinic sponsored by the PHS Cheerleaders will be April 15-18 in the PES Gym for students who will be in Kindergarten through 6th Grade in 2019-2020 school year.  Money and order forms are due by Wednesday, April 10. Daily snacks and a t-shirt will be given to each participant.

Saturday, April 13, there will be a nursing expo at the UALR campus.  If you are interested, see Mrs. Amber for more details.

***Black River Technical College (BRTC) Pocahontas is having a Nursing Assistant class. This class will run from May 29-June 20th and is an evening class from 3:15-10:15 p.m. There will 4 Clinical days.  This class will train you to qualify for the Arkansas State CNA Exam. This program is open to students age 16 and up.  Orientation will be on April 29th at 4 pm and is required. --We now have our Grab'n'Go cart set up in the high school cafeteria. Any student that didn't get breakfast will have a chance to eat again during the Activity period. It will be quick foods not hot foods. You must stay in the cafeteria with the food.

Gaylon Lawrence Memorial Scholarship application is also in this folder. Deadline for GL Scholarship is May 1, 2019. This is a fillable scholarship application that can be completed and printed. An essay will also need to be attached.

Seniors:  The Kalem Rouse Memorial Scholarship application is available in Mrs. Amber's office.  Graduates planning to major/minor in Agriculture or in a Vo-Tech program  are encouraged to apply. 

Seniors:  The Clay Conservation District Agriculture scholarship application is in Mrs. Amber's office.  Deadline is April 15 - turn in to Mrs. Amber

Seniors:  The Farm Bureau scholarship application is available in Mrs. Amber's office.  You must have at least a 2.5 GPA and be a child or grandchild of an active Clay County Farm Bureau member.  Preference goes toward students majoring in agriculture or the medical field but it isn't a requirement.  Deadline is April 15, 2019

Seniors:  The Horatio Alger Association Career & Technical Scholarship is available online at application.horatioalger.org  - first priority deadline is June15, 2019.

Seniors:  Textbook Brokers in Searcy has an online application for textbook scholarships.  These are chosen at random.  Deadline is May 31, 2019.  www.searcybooks.com  Schools served  by Textbook Brokers in Searcy are:  Harding, ASU Searcy, ASU Beebe, ASU Heber Springs.

Seniors:  Textbook Brokers in Conway.is offering a chance to win a textbook scholarship for  high school students who are attending UCA, CBC or UACCM in Fall 2019.  There  will be  2 winners chosen at UCA and UACCM then one winner for CBC.
